Senior British parliamentarian was arrested on charges of rape and drug possession

Washington [US], October 27: MP Crispin Blunt confirmed he was arrested on rape charges, but believes the investigation will end without leading to a decision on prosecution.
The Guardian newspaper reported on October 27 that MP Crispin Blunt (63 years old) of the ruling Conservative Party in the UK was arrested on suspicion of rape and illegal possession of drugs and was suspended by his party.
Police previously only informed that a man in his sixties had just been arrested on October 26 (local time) on charges of rape and possession of banned substances. Mr. Blunt later confirmed that this person was him and said that he had been released on bail.
With this parliamentarian's confirmation, the British Conservative Party temporarily suspended him and waited for the results of the investigation. Sources said he was ordered to stay away from the parliament building.
MP Blunt is a former Justice Secretary and former Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the British Parliament. The politician is confident that the investigation will end without prosecution.
He said he had previously reported the above incident and talked to the police.
"I gave two interviews related to this incident, the first time was 3 weeks ago when I reported concerns about being solicited. The second time was recently after being arrested. The arrest was unnecessary. because I am willing to fully cooperate with the investigation, which I believe will end without prosecution," said Congressman Blunt.
Mr. Blunt is a Conservative MP representing the Reigate area in southern England. He has been an MP for more than 25 years and is expected to step down as an MP at the next election.
Another MP from the British Conservative Party , unnamed for legal reasons, was arrested in May 2022 on charges of indecent behavior, sexual assault and rape . This congressman has not been prosecuted.
Two other former lawmakers were convicted of sexual assault, including Mr. Charlie Elphicke, who was sentenced to 2 years in prison in 2020 for 3 counts of sexual assault against 2 women. The other MP, Mr. Imran Ahmad Khan, was sentenced to 18 months in prison last year for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy.
