Hong Kong raises warning about Typhoon Koinu; 77 people died due to floods in India

Hong Kong, October 9: Typhoon Koinu appeared just a month after Hong Kong was hit by Typhoon Saola and issued a storm warning at the highest level T10.
The Hong Kong Weather Observatory said this evening it would consider issuing a storm warning at T10 for the second time this year depending on wind conditions, just minutes after raising the warning level from T8 to T9 for storms. Koinu is stronger than expected when it lands in this special zone, according to the South China Morning Post .
At least four people were injured due to the storm, while more than 200 flights were canceled or delayed until midnight. Public transport was also disrupted for much of the day and classes were cancelled.
Previously, Typhoon Koinu swept through the southernmost region of Taiwan, leaving one person dead and hundreds of thousands of homes without power, according to AFP.
Meanwhile, officials in India today announced that at least 77 people were confirmed to have died in floods that occurred in northeastern India after heavy rain caused Lhonak Lake in Sikkim state to burst on October 4. , according to AFP.
A local aid worker said a total of 29 bodies were recovered from different areas of Sikkim. Additionally, in nearby West Bengal state, Jalpaiguri district police said 48 bodies had been found. According to official figures, more than 100 people are still missing.
According to the Sikkim State Disaster Control Office, more than 2,500 people stranded in the floods have been rescued, but another 3,000 people are still trapped in several relief camps in the northern part of the state as rescue efforts are launched. The plane was delayed due to bad weather. According to the Sikkim state government, more than 1,200 houses were damaged by the recent flood.
